About Concert for the Cure

The Concert for the Cure Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the purpose of planning and executing an annual concert benefiting the American Cancer Society. The Foundation is made up of Trinity University students and alumni, who are also members of Gamma Chi Delta sorority, Kappa Kappa Delta fraternity, and Phi Sigma Chi fraternity. Our goal is to establish Concert for the Cure as an annual San Antonio tradition where local college and university students can come together and unify our community in support of a great cause.

Our History

Gamma Chi Delta’s Concert for the Cure was founded in 2005, under the name Trinity University’s Dance Marathon. Gamma Chi Delta sorority and Kappa Kappa Delta fraternity came together to organize the first event, held on November 17, 2005 in the Webster Gymnasium on Trinity’s campus. With Roger Creager performing, we were able to raise $7,000 for the American Cancer Society and confirm that this program had the potential to become a legitimate Trinity tradition.

The success continued with our 2nd Annual Dance Marathon, featuring Reckless Kelly. On January 18, 2007, we raised over $9,000 for the ACS.

In 2008, we changed the name to Concert for the Cure in order to better reflect the purpose and nature of the event. We also were proud to include the Baptist Health System and Genzyme Corporation as corporate sponsors.

Trinity’s 3rd Annual Concert for the Cure, held on January 23, 2008, was an enormous success, raising over $17,000 for the American Cancer Society with our biggest crowd turnout to date. We were thrilled to welcome back Roger Creager as our headliner, and excited to add the Paul Eason Band as an opening act.

We are confident that moving Concert for the Cure to Sunset Station will greatly strengthen the success of the event. By opening the concert to the entire San Antonio community, we hope to significantly increase our fundraising totals through ticket sales and community support, such as additional corporate sponsorships and media assistance.

We hope to see you on January 28th!
