About Us

The Concert for the Cure Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the purpose of planning and executing an annual country music concert benefiting the American Cancer Society. The Foundation is made up of Trinity University students and alumni, who are also members of Gamma Chi Delta sorority. In the past, other Greek groups from Trinity University have co-sponsored the event as well as served on the Foundation Board. Our most recurring Greek co-sponsoring groups include the Kappa Kappa Delta, and Phi Sigma Chi fraternities.

Our goal is to establish Concert for the Cure as an annual San Antonio tradition where local community members and university students can come together and unify San Antonio in support of a great cause.

The History of Concert For The Cure

Gamma Chi Delta’s Concert for the Cure was founded in 2005, under the name Trinity University’s Dance Marathon. Gamma Chi Delta sorority and Kappa Kappa Delta fraternity came together to organize the first event, held on November 17, 2005 in the Webster Gymnasium on Trinity’s campus. With Roger Creager performing, we were able to raise $7,000 for the American Cancer Society and confirm that this program had the potential to become a legitimate Trinity tradition.

The success continued with our 2nd Annual Dance Marathon, featuring Reckless Kelly. On January 18, 2007, we raised over $9,000 for the ACS.

In 2008, we changed the name to Concert for the Cure in order to better reflect the purpose and nature of the event. We also were proud to include the Baptist Health System and Genzyme Corporation as corporate sponsors.

Trinity’s 3rd Annual Concert for the Cure, held on January 23, 2008, was an enormous success, raising over $17,000 for the American Cancer Society with our biggest crowd turnout to date. We were thrilled to welcome back Roger Creager as our headliner, and excited to add the Paul Eason Band as an opening act.

In 2009 we moved the event off campus to San Antonio's own Sunset Station with Paul Eason, the Scott Wiggins band and Aaron Einhouse band playing as well as our headliner, the Eli Young Band.

The latest Concert For The Cure which occurred on Friday January 22, 2010 raised over $21,000 for the American Cancer Society. Both Paul Eason and the Aaron Einhouse Band returned to play before our headliner Wade Bowen. The event was held at Cowboy's Dance Hall in San Antonio. We are excited to return to this venue for our 2011 concert occurring on Saturday, January 22, 2011
